Paul also finished the 45 Flathead in time to take to Bonneville.

Her top speed was 98.4 mph!

2008 was a very special year for us.
Paul’s Harley racing lineage was reinforced this year when his father, Henry , raced at Bonneville on his 83rd
birthday and set a Land Speed Record. Henry did us proud. His fastest speed was 139.663 MPH!
He set the record at an average of 137.786 MPH (that’s a whopping 220.457 KM/H).

Paul’s parents came all the way from Cape Town, South Africa to race,
but First they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.

With that behind them, they headed out to set another record.
This one Henry would set on his own at Bonneville.
(See our Bonneville video section for live coverage).

We couldn’t have this much fun without the SCTA/BNI staff who make this event possible.
THANK-YOU! Every year we are met by a team of enthusiastic professional folk who willingly guide us
every step of the way. Your work is greatly appreciated.

Another wonderful event, made some great new friends.
And, as David Pilgrim likes to say after a week of racing :

"Everything still runs and no-one got hurt. Mission accomplished"

We built David Pilgrim of Rockport , TX a 1950 Panhead motor to race Bonneville and race he did!
David set 2 records this year on his Panhead! This isn’t a 120 cubic inch aftermarket Panhead –
this is the real McCoy, a real Panhead, one that meets all the requirements set by SCTA to race
in the Vintage Class. His fastest record was 142.045 MPH, and his fastest one-way speed was a
STAGGERING 144.668 MPH (naturally aspirated, running gas - NO methanol, NO alcohol, NO turbo - just gas).

Hats off to David Pilgrim – owner & rider!

Paul worked his Flathead magic once again and raced his 1937 BigTwin Flathead for the 2nd time at Bonneville.
He set four world speed records this time around. His fastest record speed was 130.556 MPH. Congrats Paul!

David Pilgrim of Rockport , TX raced his 1938 BigTwin Flathead for the 2nd year in a row at Bonneville.
David set 4 land Speed records also this event. When he is not racing at Bonneville, David is racing at
the Texas Mile on his trusty Flathead.

What a great event this was! Our motors came home with 8 new Land Speed records.

2005 57th Annual Bonneville Speed Week event

Records set by our motors on this year :

M-VF 1350cc : 1938 Flathead : David Pilgrim : 105.147 MPH

MPS-VG 1350cc : 1938 Flathead : David Pilgrim : 110.801 MPH

MPS-VF 1350cc : 1938 Flathead : David Pilgrim : 121.815 MPH

In an issue of Easy Rider’s magazine, David Pilgrim, of Rockport, TX had read about Paul & his dream
to build a Flathead motor to race at Bonneville Salt Flats. After many discussions with Paul on the phone
David paid Paul a visit – no mean feat for this Texan given that he arrived in the middle of a snow storm!
David recalls the sight he saw as he entered American Cycle Fab & said that he knew right there and then
that he was in FlatHead Heaven! The two of them talked ‘FlatHead turkey’ late into the night and all day
and every day that David was there. Paul was finally in a position to put all those years of design into practice.

It was a dream come true for both these guys. And what a dream it has turned out to be…..as at 2009 David has
raced this motor countless times not only at Bonneville, but also at the Texas Mile & the Maxton Mile.
Major changes afoot this year for Speed Week 2009 where David will debut the new configuration of this very motor
– the very motor he raced for the 1st time in 2005 – turbo charged!
